According to the press release published on the official website of the European Pallet Association, Euro pallets achieved another record-breaking year in 2022, producing a total of 109.05 million EPAL Euro pallets. This marks a 7.55% growth from the previous year, where they produced more than 100 million new EPAL Euro pallets for the first time.

This represents the growth of 7.65 million EPAL pallets produced. As an EPAL license holder, BMR is proud to contribute to this significant increase in production growth. This article will discuss how the achievements of EPAL in the past year are compared to the previous year.

Strong EPAL Production Growth

The repair levels for EPAL Euro pallets in the current year remained almost unchanged compared to the previous year, with only a slight decrease of -0.33%. Meanwhile, the number of returned used EPAL Euro pallets significantly decreased in the first half of 2022, leading to an initial decline in the repair figures. However, the repair numbers improved positively in the second half of the year, nearly fully reversing this trend.

Furthermore, EPAL Box pallet production showed a positive trend with a significant increase of 66.7% in 2021 to 288,000 pallets, and the growth continued in 2022 with a notable rise to 340,400 pallets (+18%).

The Circulation of EPAL Euro Pallets Surpasses 650 Million Units

Ensuring the safety of goods in logistics and the longevity of EPAL Euro pallets relies heavily on their superior quality. Studies indicate that the service life of these pallets ranges from six to ten years. Despite the challenges faced in 2022 due to the war in Ukraine and disruptions in European supply routes for pallet timber and nails, the commitment of over 1,600 EPAL licensees allowed them to overcome these difficulties. This enabled them to meet the growing demand for EPAL pallets. Currently, there are over 650 million EPAL Euro pallets available through the open EPAL pallet pool.

The Resilience of The EPAL Production Euro Pallet Pool

EPAL’s success during the COVID-19 pandemic was due to the resilience of the EPAL Euro pallet pool, which provided reliable availability for logistics. Over 500 EPAL licensees are part of the open EPAL pallet pool, which caters to users in industry, retail, and logistics by producing new EPAL pallets. Additionally, there are over 1,100 repair operations that supply users with used EPAL pallets.

According to the Vice-President of EPAL, Tatyana Sargsyan, the EPAL licensee network in Europe, along with many service providers and users, form a close-knit community. This community prevents dependence on a single supplier and ensures swift delivery over short distances despite the high demand. As a result, there were no negative effects on pallet logistics or the logistics processes of users during 2022.

The Open and Independent EPAL Pallet Pool

EPAL’s open and independent system allows any company to participate in the exchange of EPAL Euro pallets through its logistics operations, adapting to its own requirements. The success of the EPAL Euro pallet is based on the mutual objective of EPAL licensees, users, service providers, and logistics platforms to ensure consistently high quality and trouble-free use of EPAL load carriers, resulting in significant cost benefits for users.

Moreover, the open EPAL pallet pool is available to pallet producers, repair operations, service providers, and logistics platforms. As an independent association, EPAL is not affiliated with any profit-driven companies, granting free access to these entities.
